Q. After how much time after marriage do I consult my doctor for infertility?
A. one year after marriage with unprotected intercourse if there is no pregnancy one should visit the Gynaecologist.
Q. Should I come with my husband or alone?
A. You should always bring your husband if you are coming for infertility consultation as both are to be investigated.
Q. I have heard about fertile period - What is it?
A. yes, it is a window period of 4 to 6 days in the mid of your cycle when chances of pregnancy are maximum.
Q. Is fertile period, same for every patient?
A. No, it changes every month according the date of menstruation and menstrual cycle.
Q. What are the investigations for both male and female partners?
A. The basic investigation for male are seminogram (Sperm count and motility) and for females a battery of tests including ultrasound, blood investigations, HSG, and diagnostic laparoscopy and hysteroscopy with endometrial biopsy.
Q. What is HSG (Hysterosalpingography) ?
A. It is method of testing the tubal patency.
Q. Where it is done and how is it done?
A. It is done at any radiological center. The procedure involves instillation of dye in the uterus (womb) and X-ray to see the patency of the tubes from where the egg travels from ovary to the uterus (womb) through tubes, so that pregnancy can take place.
Q. I am not producing eggs - Can I have pregnancy?
A. Yes, Ovulation induction can be done with medicines and injections of hormones.
Q. What are the chances of my becoming pregnant?
A. It depends on the cause of infertility but majority of the infertility conditions are curable and chances of pregnancy are high after treatment.
